He has published over 170 articles in refereed journals and international conferences in the above areas and has been invited speaker in major international events.
Timos Sellis is a recipient of an NSF Presidential Young Investigator (PYI) award for 1990-1995, and of the VLDB 1997 10 Year Paper Award for his paper "The R+-Tree: A Dynamic Index for Multidimensional Objects", by T. Sellis, N. Roussopoulos and C. Faloutsos (which appeared in VLDB 1987). He is an IEEE Fellow (2009) for his contributions to database query optimization, and spatial data management.
He was the president of the National Council for Research and Technology of Greece (2001-2003) and a member of the VLDB Endowment (1996-2000). He has participated and co-ordinated several national and european research projects. In particular, he has been coordinating the project CHOROCHRONOS: A Research Network for Spatiotemporal Database Systems (1996-2000).
